I deeply appreciative of the honor of being a candidate in the mayoral race in this election year of 2018 for the city of Mississauga . An honorable mention could also be said to the other candidates in this race.  Among the topic of this matter, I would like to acknowledge the loving teachers, friends and families, whom have sacrificed, part of their lives, in ensuring that my dream and passion for making Mississauga a great city . 

 

Currently I am a graduating student attending my third year of studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga. For the first half of my life as a new member to the Canadian society, the ongoing shift and change from one culture to another has signified an embarkment on an awesome, yet challenging journey. The identity of being a Chinese Canadian has made me eager to break out of the societal norms and gain my own sense of success.

Having immigrated to Canada since I was a toddler and having lived in Mississauga for close to 2 decades. In this time I have witnessed and even personally experienced many challenges — such as under performing schools, high levels of poverty, irresponsible economic development projects, and a local government without accountability. There’s also the need for better public safety and city services.

 

My family has an extensive history of engineering with both of my parents being professional electrical engineers,more specifically my mom as a professional engineer here working at Hatch Mott McDonald. Somehow, this genetic trait has progressed down to me where, I felt an essential role of following their footsteps, and thus continue the legacy.  But another part of me has been yearning for my  

 

In my mind, the world is filled with endless possibilities, I have always had a dream at finding a career catered toward benefiting and helping the community , in locations that are full of untapped potentials. Age is only an arbitrary number and at only 20 years of age, the flame and passion of my desire to peruse my goal has never been greater. Being young and filled with audacity, my goals and ambitions are all strong commitment in making the community stronger as a whole and rarely on personal gains.
